Manifesto of The Positively Unemployable
The Wake-Up Call
In 2010, amidst an economic downturn, I was laid off from a marketing agency startup in Houston. This experience was my wake-up call; I decided I would no longer subject myself to the unpredictability of employment where my destiny could be controlled by corporate decisions.
My Path
I did send out job applications, but my true commitment was to finding my first client. From the confines of my Houston apartment, I embarked on a journey of cold calls and setting up meetings. I chose to own my future, not rent it from an employer.
Moving On My Terms
The freedom my business provided allowed me to relocate to Vegas to spend time with my father, and later to Corona, California. Each move was an opportunity to expand my client base through the same strategy of cold calls and subcontract work, proving the portability and sustainability of my business model.
Networking Like a Boss
After my move to California, I excelled at building networks, both virtual and in-person, which became integral to my business's success. These networks weren't just beneficial for me; they were the lifeblood, fostering a community where everyone had the chance to grow and share opportunities.
The Next Big Thing
Currently, I am focused on developing software that is set to redefine networking. This isn't just any software; it aims to uniquely blend virtual and in-person interactions, offering something most people today don't even know they need.
Why Being Unemployable Is the Way
I Call the Shots: My life, my rules. No more waiting for a boss to decide my fate. I control my destiny.
Innovation Over Bullshit: Free from corporate constraints, I push boundaries in networking and now in software development.
Location, Schlocation: My work moves with me, not the other way around, giving me unparalleled freedom.
Growth Hack: Every day is a chance to learn, far beyond what any traditional job could offer.
Community Power: My networks and my upcoming software are designed to lift everyone up, not just myself.
Conclusion
Being Positively Unemployable means work serves my life, not the other way around. It's about controlling your own narrative, innovating, moving freely, growing personally, and impacting communities positively. This manifesto isn't merely my story; it's an invitation to anyone tired of the traditional work grind. Here's to us, the positively unemployable - let's keep rewriting the rules of work and success.
