4/4/98 II
Also Sprach Zarathustra
Nice lil ambient intro for the era. First jam is patient, just straight on groove for the first bit. Page has some great leads early, then braids in with Ernie later. Before first peak all four get into it deep.

4/2/98 II
Twist
Immediately departs from T theme. So many good parts, ending in a super ambient segment that previews 98 and 99. YouTube has some goods on CK5 majesty.

Twist
Should be “anti attendance bias” as I’d put in bottom 10 of shows seen, yet went looking for a “Twist” on an AM soak.
Nice mellow Page Rhodes entwining early. Does the “up a fourth” key change midway thru, then settles into a full band rhythm groove-> Simple
9/14/00 II
Drowned
In a word… groovy. In another word… ambient. Many varied segments in this one, but none feature Ernie as the predominant soloist. Lots of texture and atmosphere from Big Red and VERY strong improv from the rest of the cast.

8/13/93 I
Reba
Starts busting into type II almost immediately but returns to the main theme repeatedly. DEG jam early. Then, at what sounds almost like a missed jam-end cue, a chaotic repetitive jam emerges. Several mins of this then Mike wrangles back to the ending. On LB19.
7/6/94 II
Tweezer
Impending ❄️ = Tweezer. Instantly gets into a real good “hey hole” jam, into HYHU jam, back into Tweez, into ASZ jam, back into Tweez. So good 😊

Hot Tub Gin
#20yearslater#attendancebias
🐐Gin? Certainly in the discussion. Everything you can want from rock phish, Ernie led segments plus full band hose improv. Settles into a Dorian groove about 15m for a nice contrast leading to the outro
11/14/95 II
Stash -> Manteca -> Stash
Couple a MLBish jams, drum jam… my favorite part is the 4-5 times we seem to fall into the outro but then find another space to play in. Esp the last smooth cocktail jazz -> gentle menace of the Stash theme
7/15/99 II #attendancebias
Melt->Kung->Jam
Tempo whiplash in melt, very Mike driven jams throughout. “Jam” section is the 👌, def A+ material here
7/25/03 II
Mr Completely -> Low Rider -> BBFCM -> Buried Alive -> BBFCM -> Ha Ha Ha -> BBFCM -> Mr. C
The Greasy Troll is by far the MVP of this 40m+ segment, just crushing backbeat behind the band. Some good varied sections in MrC that devolve into classic Ph silly jump cuts
12/02/03 II
Rock n Roll -> Weekapaug Groove -> Tweeprise
Fish rides herd through most of this, with full rock n roll Ernie on top. Lands in effects laden crunch fest that sounds very current day. Finishes with a Cold Rain and Snow sounding jam that crashes into Weekapaug
7/6/94 II
Landlady > Poor Heart > Tweezer
We’re here cause it’s gonna be 🥶,🥶,🥶,🥶,🥶 tonight. Tease filled w/ HYHU, Donna Lee, ASZ, and Who Knows. Lots of inspired jamming connecting tho, with pockets of the weird to come in the fall. Metal, jazz, dissonant funk. 💥
Suzy is standard-good for this era, but you can feel a little extra mustard swagger given the import of the event.
LUaLMA is such an interesting contrast to the following (towering) night. Tight quick flow from idea to idea
12/30/99 I
Light Up & Leave Me Alone -> Suzy
First LULA since 1989. As soon as Light Up proper is done, band breaks into heater jam. All four taking their turn leading. Starts Dorian flavor before hitting Midnight Rider and Jiboo themes.
#attendancebias
Composed parts are a bit of a mess with folks who presumably don’t know it, but the jam takes august 93 jump cut jams and multiplies it via the few guests who were doing something “similar” at the time. Full bore MLB, no tease here
8/21/93 II
David Bowie -> MLB -> David Bowie
w/ flecktones
Flecktones are the exception that proves the rule: sit ins dilute the thing we like those guys to do.
12/12/1997 II
Prince Caspian > Jam
Arena rock jamming phish. Sounds like hints of Cavern as they enter “Jam”. Proto-BoaF groove. Mellow ending into Trey pouncing on “Izabella”
