We reached a milestone yesterday, with our 40th @BTO nest record for Eider of 2022. This Amber-listed species only started nesting @CalfObs in the early 1990's, but has gone from strength to strength with an estimated population now above 70 pairs. @manxnature @manxheritage

We had to say a fond farewell to @Phoebe_grz today - its been fantastic having you volunteer here @CalfObs carrying out the BBS survey and Wheatear mapping - not to mention finding over 60 (!!!!) Eider nests. We will all miss you, but hopefully see you again next season.

Two red-crowned crane chicks have hatched this week 🐣🐣

They are found in the wild in East Asia and are classified as Vulnerable.

A few weeks ago the Reserve Team hand-sowed seed mix into three areas on the farm to grow into turtle dove feeding plots. The seed mix includes fumitory, birdsfoot trefoil and clover. 🤞 for returning turtle doves. (Timelapse 📹) #WardensAtWork #Conservation @SaveTurtleDoves

Our 1st clutch of curlew eggs for our Headstarting project have arrived!

Saved from MOD airfields they’ll be incubated, hatched and raised here before moving to @WildKenHill and @sandringham1870 to be released to the wild

A great result opening the garden nets in the short period of nice weather ☀️ this evening. Resulted in 15 new birds ringed including two female #LongtailedTits with brood patches and a female #GreatSpottedWoodpecker. Thank you to @Phoebe_grz for your assistance. @_BTO

@Robert_K_Fisher, Phoebe (@manxnature Calf volunteer) and I helped @iomdefa Biodiversity Officer, Louise Samson, to erect fencing and warning signs around Smeale Beach this morning. Remember to avoid the area and keep dogs on leads until August 1st 👍 #ManxNature #TeamWilder 🐤🏖
