The script is already approved.
The schedule is tight.
The real question becomes: who can realistically push this now?
So the conversation gets delayed.
The genuine inclusion decisions happen much earlier:
— in the writing room
— in the casting brief
— in the breakdown sent to agents
— in who actually gets seen in auditions
Once those are set, the system is moving.
Worth asking your team:
In your last production, when did inclusion enter the casting conversation?
Before the role was substantively written?
Or after it was already moving toward casting?
If after, it happened too late to do the work.
#InclusiveCasting#ScreenIndustry
Most inclusion conversations in casting happen too late to make a difference.
By the time a team is “considering more diverse options,” the outcome is largely fixed.
A thread on why timing matters more than awareness ↓
Trust rarely collapses in one big moment. It wears down through brushed-off concerns, vague answers, and “we’ll see” that never turns into action.
Where have you seen a process done well that felt genuinely safe, fair, and inclusive? 👇
3) INCLUSION
Who was in the room when policies and decisions were shaped and who was missing? If inclusion is an afterthought, the system will exclude by default.
