The area under the ROC curve (AUC) is so frequently criticized and misunderstood that I often wonder whether I am the metric’s only fan. Let me explain why how I see and value the AUC.

Our paper Genetic Landscape of COPD now out in @NatureGenet - fantastic job by @PhuwanatS @BrianDHobbs #ICGC and wonderful collaborators: https://t.co/78urxbg5Fq
#rigor and #reproducibility have long been promoted by #genepisociety and the field generally. In fact these were the main topics in past president Inke Koenig’s keynote at #IGES2018. @f2harrell should be happy to hear I have no plans to change this tradition. /longthread
Really cool randomized trial on primary prevention for heart attack.
Showing someone (in Sweden) the gunk buildup (atherosclerosis) in neck arteries seems to lead to improvement in risk factors.
Really nice work with our Finnish collaborators (@sinikerminen, @samrip, and colleagues) on stratification in polygenic scores and over-prediction of geographical differences in Finland: https://t.co/tmw25VN3cd
Today was my last lecture for @MIT#ComputationalBiology: #Genomes, #Networks, #Evolution, #Health. I recorded each and immediately posted online here: https://t.co/z7eouWlosl
Please do share, and let me know which topics need more explanations, clarifications, and corrections!
Great leadership starts with great self-leadership. It’s never too early to develop your skill set of:
-Managing your time and productivity
-Managing your motivation
-Managing your responses to others

Great to see the celebration of @uk_biobank with a number of key papers in @nature (and a cover! always great for scientists!). These papers are a handful of the simply thousands of papers that will come from this resource (many already present in preprints).
Outstanding work by @genetisaur (and @masakanai) on a very important and (we felt) not sufficiently discussed element of the PRS discussion - not any easy topic by any means so we welcome all nature of feedback!
My recent work on genetic studies of COPD... Expanded genetic landscape of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease reveals heterogeneous cell type and phenotype… https://t.co/GhK6Ab5csn
On #InternationalTeachersDay I wanted to share this clip of Ian Wright talking about an inspiring teacher.
It's incredibly moving - you'll want to watch it until the end.
Grad students, as you work to become an "independent researcher," an important distinction is:
Independent does not mean alone.
Independent means you take ownership, gather knowledge, formulate ideas, then bring all of that into dialogue with others who can help. #PhDchat
