Today we remember Special Agent Charles M. Davis who died from wounds suffered while protecting the U.S. Mail on June 5, 1867. Special Agent Davis was added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC earlier this year. We look forward to sharing more of his story at 3 PM EST today. #USPIS #NeverForget #RIP

Charles M. Davis’s death was recently discovered by Postal Inspector Travis Smoot of the Phoenix Division. This makes Davis the first known postal inspector to die from wounds suffered in the line of duty.

Following the attack, Davis was rushed to the nearest doctor in Fort Sedgwick, but his wounds proved to be fatal. Special Agent Davis died three days later on June 5, 1867.
