EPA to strengthen Ghana’s Climate Action for COP30 through Pre Conference Training.
As we prepare for COP30 in Brazil later this year, I am happy to announce that the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of Ghana is taking proactive steps to enhance our country’s participation in global climate negotiations.
At a recent forum reflecting on the Global Goal on Adaptation and the outcomes of COP29, we acknowledged key challenges including the failure to agree on binding commitments to phase out fossil fuel subsidies. These subsidies continue to distort energy markets and slow down the adoption of clean energy solutions, making it harder for nations like Ghana to advance sustainable development.
In response, the EPA is launching a series of comprehensive training sessions from May to equip both state and non-state actors with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage effectively at COP. These sessions will be open to all whether you are an expert or a passionate advocate, we encourage you to participate and be part of Ghana’s climate delegation.
Our focus areas for COP30 include:
1. Adaptation – Strengthening Ghana’s resilience to climate change.
2. Climate Finance – Advocating for fair financial support to implement climate action.
3. Agriculture & Food Security – Ensuring sustainability in our food systems.
4. Gender Mainstreaming – Promoting inclusivity in climate solutions.
With the support of the recently passed EPA Act, we are prioritizing capacity building to ensure that our negotiation teams are well-prepared to communicate Ghana’s climate priorities effectively. Data-driven decision-making will be at the core of our strategy because having accurate statistics and presenting them correctly will make a difference in the fight for climate justice.
If you are planning to participate in COP30, I encourage you to join our training sessions under the EPA. Let’s work together to properly coordinate Ghana’s participation and make our voices heard on the global stage.
