Overall, this placement strengthened my interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
I gained experience assessing and managing a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including frozen shoulder and osteoarthritis.
This placement strengthened my subjective and objective assessment skills, clinical reasoning & ability to develop individualised treatment plans.
This placement developed my knowledge of walking aid progression, post-operative rehabilitation and injury prognosis. I also gained experience applying evidence-based guidelines, including hip precautions and early mobilisation.
I worked with patients following surgery, including elective and traumatic surgeries. I was fortunate enough to observe multiple surgeries, this experience of observing surgeries allowed me to have a deeper understanding of the patients entire journey π.
Placement reflection - Respiratory and Cardiology π«π«
My second full-time placement as a student physiotherapist was across respiratory, medical and cardiology wards, where I gained experience managing patients with a range of acute and complex medical presentations. π¨ββοΈ
I developed my knowledge of respiratory assessment and treatment, including airway clearance techniques, breathing exercises and cardiac rehabilitation. I did this while adapting interventions to individual patient needs and their clinical presentation.
I gained valuable experience working collaboratively with carers and guardians to support holistic and person-centred care.
The placement also developed my clinical skills through completing neurological assessments and applying my findings to inform appropriate rehabilitation

My first full-time placement was with NHS Lanarkshireβs Learning Disabilities and Mental Health community service.
I worked with patients with a range of complex conditions including cerebral palsy and down syndrome where I developing my ability to adapt my communication and treatment approaches to individual needs.π§¬
I developed my understanding of mobility assessment and the appropriate use of walking aids to safely progress or regress patients' mobility.
This placement strengthened my ability to adapt to a fast-paced ward environment and reinforced the importance of safe and rehab.

My second observational placement was within a geriatric ward at NHS Lanarkshire, where I gained experience in supporting patients admitted with a range of orthopaedic and medical conditions.
