Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus comes to Tokyo for its first outdoor screening at Komazawa Olympic Park, with free admission.
Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus, the concert film capturing Ryuichi Sakamoto's final solo piano performance, will have its first open-air screening in Tokyo on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Central Plaza of Komazawa Olympic Park.
Opus has been screened outdoors twice at Umekita Park in Grand Green Osaka, both times to an overwhelming response. Around 5,000 people attended the first screening in September 2025, and around 7,000 came to the second in May 2026, sharing a special evening of listening quietly to Sakamoto's piano under the moonlight.
This autumn, the open-air screening of Opus comes to Tokyo.
At the Central Plaza of Komazawa Olympic Park, Sakamoto's image will be projected against the autumn night sky as the sound of his piano gently fills the plaza. Held in an open-air setting unlike any movie theater, this one-night-only screening invites audiences to experience Sakamoto's final solo piano performance.
Opus was filmed over eight days in September 2022, six months before Sakamoto's death. After more than two years of battling cancer, he summoned the last of his strength to perform on the grand piano he had cherished for years in concerts and recordings.
The film features 20 pieces selected by Sakamoto himself, including his signature Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, pieces from his final solo album 12, and the first-ever solo piano arrangement of YMO's Tong Poo.
His fingers caress each note, his breath is audible, and his hands bear the marks of time. The quiet, beautiful performance is fragile and resonates deeply with everyone who watches it.
The experience of watching Opus under the night sky that captivated audiences in Osaka arrives in Tokyo. Come enjoy an autumn evening with Ryuichi Sakamoto's piano echoing through Komazawa Park.
