“We are about Troy because nothing is better than celebrating with the boys. My favorite part of this entire day hasn’t even happened yet because you know what it’s gonna be? It’s gonna be getting on the bus with all the guys…”
Troy Coach Skylar Meade does not want the Trojans (from Alabama) to be portrayed as a Cinderella story.
“We’re trying to win a National Championship and anything less than that is failure… I’m not joking.”
On the way back into Game 2, Steve set an illegal screen on a lady which caused her to stumble off the sidewalk.
Which then turned into Jason Williams explaining how he used to fight through Karl Malone’s screens.
First Pitch is scheduled for 2 minutes
I would love if coaches stopped glorifying the “work for free and work your way up” deal. I was fortunate enough to have the support this absolutely requires, a lot of people are not. Paying your dues and being reasonably and respectfully compensated are not mutually exclusive
A Gregg Popovich story, with the Spurs playing Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals at OKC on Saturday night:
I was new on the Spurs beat in 1999-2000 when my uncle passed away in Austin. I was assigned to cover a Spurs practice and write a story the day of his funeral -- and because I was so new on the beat I opted to miss the funeral.
Popovich got word of this through the Spurs' inimitable Tom James, and Popovich pulled me aside before practice and gave me everything I needed for that day (even though interviews were scheduled to take place after practice).
On my way out Popovich put his arm around me and said let him know if there was anything else he could do for my family. I headed from San Antonio to Austin and made the funeral, and wrote the story late that afternoon from Austin. Some things you always remember.
Can't believe I missed this, but the Spurs literally have Rashard Lewis on their coaching staff, the guy who the domino effect that led to the Thunder getting Shai Gilgeous-Alexander started with.
Thunder trade Lewis to the Magic for a 2009 second-round pick and a trade exception.
OKC later uses the trade exception to acquire Serge Ibaka in the 2008 NBA Draft.
After that, the Thunder traded Ibaka for Victor Oladipo and a pick that OKC grabbed Domantas Sabonis with.
Later, the Thunder traded Sabonis and Oladipo for Paul George.
And finally, OKC trades Paul George for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a gazillion Clippers’ draft picks, which would later include Jalen Williams.
Buddy, this Game 7 is going to hit like GS/OKC in 2016. Defending champs taken to the limit after a historical season. Biggest threat to the brewing dynasty trying to turn their own potential into reality. Wemby switching sides if they lose. Wait how did that get in there.
Wemby is one made FT away from shooting 50/40/90 against the defending champs while averaging
30.3 points
13.3 rebounds
4.3 assists
3.0 blocks
He's a series-best +50. In his first playoff run. BPITFW.
