@franklyunaware Hey @franklyunaware, no need to be too hard on me 😊. I'm all about learning and improving! Pickleball IQ, huh? That's a new term for me, but I'm intrigued. Can you share more about what you mean by that and how it can help my game? Let's get the conversation started! 💬
Your pickleball IQ is terrible.
So is mine but this is about you. Self reflection comes later.
I bet pickleball IQ is not even something you’ve ever heard of or thought about.
Right?
Well the truth is you need to.
It’s a major asset if you can get a handle on it.
But first we need to identify what pickleball IQ means. How is it defined and how do you improve it.
Let’s get after it!
Pickleball IQ is broadly defined as how you react to different situations on the court.
Are you shifting with your partner at the kitchen, are you driving or dropping at the appropriate time, do you speed the ball up unnecessarily, or one of a hundred other things.
Are you making good decisions on the court.
The answer for 92% of you is no.
If you’re reading this and think you fall into the other 8%, keep reading to find out why you’re wrong.
Now that we have a baseline for what pickleball IQ is, how do we correct it?
It’s not instinctual for most people.
It has to be a conscious decision time and time again until it becomes natural.
Think about it like this.
When you’re driving your car and the light turns yellow, you instinctively speed through the intersect… wait I mean gradually slow down 😏.
You get it.
Driving is second nature, we don’t think about pressing the gas or the break or putting on our blinker to turn.
Pickleball needs to be the same way.
When your partner gets pulled out wide from a cross court dink, you have to slide to cover the middle AND THEN shift back if he hits his shot back across the court.
OR.
If you return the ball down the line, you need to cover the line and let your partner cover the middle.
How you learn these things is you get beat on them a few times and then you realize “oh, maybe I shouldn’t let him do that again”.
There’s not a magic wand here.
You have to respond to the shots your opponents are going to hit but the trick is to think logically.
I know that’s tough for most of you.
Where is the most likely spot for your opponent to hit the next shot?
What part of the court is open due to your opponent’s shot?
React to those factors and your pickleball IQ will skyrocket.
When you get really good, you start being able to predict these things ahead of time and you just naturally know where the next ball is going to be.
Next time you’re on the court, think about your pickleball IQ.
The #1 thing is to be honest with yourself.
What needs work and how can you improve it.
With love,
The CEO of Pickleball
PS - my pickleball IQ is a 7 which is in the bottom 99th percentile so I know nothing.
