READ: Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has drawn more flak as the student council of his former law school said the senator “fell short” of the ethical leadership expected of him.

In its statement on Thursday, the Ateneo Law School student council expressed disappointment in the Senate president, saying his “commitment to impunity” was a “mockery” of the school’s values.

Anong pinagsasabi ni Alan Cayetano na wala pang naa-aresto sa loob ng Senate? Eh, ano ‘to? Back in 2018, Makati RTC issued a warrant against me for rebellion and it was served by the PNP while the Senate was in session. The arresting PNP personnel read to me the Miranda rights while I was at the Executive Lounge beside the Senate Session Hall. Sumama ako sa mga pulis na nag-aresto sakin.

ICC was created not to undermine a State Party’s justice system. Otherwise, developed countries like Germany, France, Australia, and Japan wouldn’t have joined it. Its purpose is to prosecute tyrants who
commit crimes against humanity, and whose power and influence over the local justice system made it unwilling and unable to prosecute said tyrants. Such is the case in the Philippines. Victims/witnesses would not dare file a case against duterte and should there be one filed, no prosecutor or judge could possibly prosecute it objectively without fear of reprisal. Gets?

By the way, the Supreme Court has already decided, through a 15-0 vote, that the ICC “retains jurisdiction over any and all acts committed by government actors until March 17, 2019. Hence, withdrawal from the Rome Statute does not affect the liabilities of individuals charged before the ICC for acts committed up to this date.”
