Probably the worst case scenario when you’re fishing is that you catch a fish. I just wanted to drink beer with the fellas for 6 hours and now I’m wielding a fillet knife on rough seas
Claire’s closing down? Serves them right for accusing me of shoplifting in their Accrington Arndale store in 1996. Played the long game but I’ve had the last laugh.
Susanna Reid, "I'm going to ask you about hypno-boobing"
Zack Polanski, "I'm sure the audience will be delighted that you're asking me a question about something that happened 13 years ago including an interview a week after The Sun article, when I've apologised many many times since"
"Your audience will notice that I'm talking about taxing multimillionaires and billionaires"
"Taking wealth away from powerful people and putting it back into our communities"
"And GMB ten days before local elections"
"Rather than asking about our policies around food banks, or spending money on our public services, or making sure people are supported in this country"
Ed Balls, "I thought you'd like to answer these questions"
Zack Polanski, "You're really struggling here, ten days before local elections, on the day I'm announcing I want to bring buses into public control to make sure reducing bus fares in cities and rural communities"
"It's interesting you don't want to ask me about any of these things, you want to do shock jock tactics, and by the way, this is why people hate the media"
Remember that wrt Thatcher selling BP and Brown selling the gold, etc, despite however many tens of billions we lost out on in the interim, the money that went into the public purse was to give Boomers tax cuts during their prime working years. Thats why it’s so important that taxes are so high now; they’re accustomed to that lifestyle, it would be cruel if they had to live like others, having grown so fat on the public purse.
People don’t know this but there’s a little pouch in Starmer’s lower back where the American security state can put their hands in and make his mouth move. China builds an entire high-speed rail network in the time it takes Britain to approve a consultation report. China lifted 800m from poverty; Britain pushes millions to food banks. A single Chinese province rolls out more solar capacity in a year than the entire UK manages in a decade. Beijing is planning moon bases; Britain is arguing about whether teachers should have pens.
China does not care about Britain.
Here’s my favourite Lucy Powell moment again:
In 2015 as Ed Miliband’s election manager when they had that ‘Ed Stone,’ she was being interrogated about policy on R4 & got irate & barked “Look just because we wrote it on a big concrete slab, that doesn’t mean it’s set in stone.”
