After clocking up 1,387 nautical miles over the weekend, Prague to Nuremberg and back to the UK, all flown in the airways, it’s a great feeling to have ticked off my first European trip of 2026. Dodging severe thunderstorms and pushing through some strong winds added to the challenge, but we made it safely.
After a fantastic weekend touring Europe, we’re flying back to the UK. It’s a 4hr 40min flight from Nuremberg to Oxford, complete with the usual headwind. Track us here: https://t.co/Bp7v8INPGn
After a smooth and uneventful flight to Prague, we continued on to Nuremberg. We faced significant severe weather en route and made multiple decisions to deviate and avoid it. Cloud tops were observed as high as FL470. While I’m confident I didn’t make any bad decisions, it was still a major learning experience. I’d much rather treat it as a valuable lesson than become a statistic.
Same-day UK to Germany getaway in our own airplane. No long security lines, just pure travel freedom and a full day discovering Düsseldorf’s vibes. This is why general aviation is the ultimate way to explore Europe! Where’s your dream quick European escape? https://t.co/EUcnaKbIrf
Here we go, our first trip of 2026 and my longest flight since September 2024! Flying over 500 nautical miles in a small aircraft is definitely nerve-wracking, but I’m so glad my partner is with me. They get to experience the magic of Prague for the very first time.

@GgAviation I really wish we had Air-conditioning. Although we opened the vents and as soon as we got to FL150 it was freezing inside. Had the heating on till we got to Prague lol 😆
We'll be monitoring the weather very closely over the next few days. This heat and clear skies bring a high risk of thunderstorms and convective activity, which often means icing and some seriously nasty turbulence.
Europe trips can also get hit with slot restrictions due to weather or ATC capacity. First flight: Thursday at 1320z from the UK to Prague (LKPR), approx. 4 hours flight time.
When planning IFR trips, it usually goes one of two ways. About 95% of the time, you’re on top of the weather the whole way, cruising in smooth air above it all. But every once in a while, you run into something you can’t top, and you have to deviate around it. That’s the strategic part of actually using your Instrument Rating, figuring out when and how to make those decisions
Super excited to kick off Euro Touring again! First flight is in just two weeks, heading to Prague, then on to Nuremberg for the Erlangen Bergweich. A few weeks after that, it’s Vienna for the Austrian Grand Prix, then a rescheduled trip to Zurich. And in September, I’m doing the big one: Ibiza via Geneva and Palma de Mallorca. This will be my 5th year doing this since I got my instrument rating. Planning to post more details this time, and the videos will show a lot more of the real flying life, the good, the challenging, and everything in between. Small aeroplane, big adventures across Europe in peak season. Can’t wait to hit some new airports and a few old favourites. Who’s got recommendations for places I should fly to next year?
