What Barbara O’Neill & modern wellness gurus are rediscovering about Castor Oil was already meticulously documented in Ayurveda 2,000+ years ago. 🧵
The post you shared highlights castor oil (rich in ricinoleic acid) for hair growth, thicker lashes, eye health, and even anecdotal glaucoma support. Its anti-inflammatory & penetrating qualities are real.
But the ancient sages didn’t just “swear by it” - they codified its exact properties, uses, and supremacy in the classical texts.
Sanskrit Name & Core Identity
Eranda (एरण्ड) = the plant
Eranda Taila (एरण्ड तैल) = the oil
It is classified as Vata-Kapha shamaka (pacifies Vata & Kapha), sukshma (subtle/penetrates deep into channels), tikshna (sharp), and tvachya (excellent for skin & hair).
Charaka Samhita – The Gold Standard
Key verse on the root (widely referenced as supreme):
एरण्डमूलं वृष्यं वातहराणाम्
Transliteration:
Eraṇḍamūlaṃ vṛṣyaṃ vātaharāṇām
Translation:
“The root of Eranda is the best among all aphrodisiacs (vṛṣya) and Vata-pacifiers (vātaharāṇām).”
Charaka repeatedly positions Eranda Taila as ideal for virechana (therapeutic purgation) and deep Vata disorders - exactly the kind of systemic dryness or inflammation that shows up as brittle hair, dry eyes, or joint issues.
Sushruta Samhita – The Most Detailed Shloka (Sutrasthana, Dravadravya Vidhi Adhyaya, 45/114)
This is the meaty one:
Translation (direct from classical rendering):
“Eranda taila is sweet (madhura), hot in potency (uṣṇa vīrya), penetrating/sharp (tikṣṇa), kindles digestive fire (dīpana), has bitter and astringent secondary tastes, enters into the minutest pores (sukṣma), cleanses the channels/srotas (srotoviśodhana), is beneficial for the skin (tvacya), aphrodisiac (vṛṣya), sweet post-digestively (madhura vipāka), delays ageing (jarāhara), purifies the reproductive tract and semen, bestows health, intelligence, brilliance, complexion, memory and strength. It mitigates Vata and Kapha and removes impurities especially from the lower body (produces gentle purgation).”
Sushruta explicitly calls it the best among all laxative oils.
Why This Matters for the Modern Uses Mentioned
- Hair & lashes: The sukshma + snigdha + tvachya qualities explain deep nourishment and why it’s traditionally used to combat Data-induced dryness and breakage.
- Eyes & pressure: While Ayurveda doesn’t directly claim “glaucoma cure,” the same penetrating, channel-cleansing, anti-Vata action aligns with why traditional practitioners applied it externally or used it in protocols for inflammatory eye conditions.
- Anti-inflammatory power: Ricinoleic acid’s effects match Ayurveda’s description of Vatahara + srotoshodhana - clearing blockages and reducing stagnation.
Charaka lists Eranda in groups for pain relief (Angamardaprashamana), sweating support, and abdominal disorders. It’s used in basti (enema), ksheerapaka (milk decoctions), and external applications for swelling and Vata vyadhi (neurological/musculoskeletal issues).
What feels like a “new” natural hack in 2026 was already a precisely understood, verse-documented medicine in the Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas. The sages didn’t guess - they observed, classified, and preserved the exact rasa, guna, virya, vipaka, and karma.
Timeless wisdom > trend.

Dear Novak (@DjokerNole)
{If at all you get to read this 🤞}
I have been following tennis since the legendary days of John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors, witnessing the rise of Björn Borg, and later, the elegance and dominance of Roger Federer. I watched Stefan Edberg—as cool as Federer—alongside Agassi, Sampras, and Boris Becker. Yet, my greatest ever player was Ivan Lendl. I used to pray he would win just one #Wimbledon before he retired. I almost wept when he lost to Becker after leading by two sets, victory right at his fingertips. It never happened.
Then came a young player called the "Djoker." It was fun watching clips of you imitating other players, but I never, ever thought you would go on to become who you are today. Honestly, the joke is on me and everyone else who thought you were just a mere joker!
At 57, still running around to earn for my family, I rarely find the time to watch tennis with the same passion I used to. But today, if I am watching, it is solely for you, Novak.
After your first-set thriller against Felix, I honestly thought you might eventually bow out by the fourth set. And it would have been okay with me. Given the sheer grit and power you’ve displayed for years, I was already happy just seeing you reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal, fighting fiercely against opponents way younger and faster. Even a loss would have been honorable.
But how magnificently you proved me and so many others wrong on Tuesday.
From once being tagged as a joker to surviving a grueling 5+ hour marathon with three intense tie-breakers, you are now the oldest semifinalist in the history of Wimbledon. Wow.
I am more than happy to see you reach this far. But my prayer and hope now is that you go on to win the championship—not for any of us, but for yourself, your adorable children, and your family.
I wish you all the luck in the world. Praying that you keep going and growing strong in whatever you do, both now and after tennis.
With immense respect, Anantha 🙏🐐

@timcha47@TheTennisLetter Why take it as if Djokovic was putting him down. May be he truly wished he had to endure only 90 minutes. Besides football is a Team sport even out of those 90 mins how much does each player actually possess the ball. @DjokerNole#GOAT
Novak Djokovic when Leo Messi was brought up in his press conference after winning a 5 hour & 15 minute match at Wimbledon
“It would be nice to play 90 minutes like him”

A fresh #Low#Pressure#Area (LPA) is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha coast, around 12–13 July. The system is expected to move west–northwestwards across North Odisha, Jharkhand, and northern Chhattisgarh. Under its influence,

I don't know if you know this, but here's some interesting data: Tamil Nadu, with just 5.5% of India’s population, owns around 30% of the country’s private gold holdings. It goes without saying that the state is number one in gold ownership.
You know who is number two? Maharashtra, owning roughly 15% of the country’s gold.
I always say perception is not reality. We assume many things and take them as truth. Always verify.
For example, ask anyone. They would say Kerala is number one in gold. No doubt Keralites love gold. But it owns only about 6% of the country’s gold, ranking number four after Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.
What’s even more striking: Tamil Nadu’s household gold holdings alone (around 7,000 tonnes) exceed the official central bank reserves of Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Switzerland, Japan, and many others, almost coming close to the United States’ national reserves.
