The HCA for- profit hospital empire also owns HealthTrust Performance Group (HPG) the USA’s 3rd biggest group purchasing organizations (GPO).
GPO’s write the contracts that bring supplies and medications into hospitals. Like PBM’s, GPO are legally allowed to accept kickbacks from manufacturers. When you read through Dr Bruggerman’s s excellent post below, you realize how conflicts of interest compound when both vertical and horizontal integration run unchecked.

Regulation does not replace competition. The best ownership model should win.

Instead consumer protection/oversight should police bad actors.
