Congratulations to the Family First team in Victoria on achieving 4.4pc of the vote (with 30pc counted) in the Werribee by-election today.

A vote a little higher than this State-wide in the up-coming federal election puts Bernie Finn in contention for a Senate seat, which is exactly what our nation needs.

The message from Werribee is it is not just Labor that is on the nose, the primary vote of both major parties was at close of tonight's counting, below 30pc.

Well done to Victorian Chair Jane Foreman and to our candidate Matt Emerson who represented mainstream families so well.

Every polling booth was staffed at pre-poll and on election day and committed volunteers letterboxed 20,000 flyers.

If the Liberals take Werribee, it will be on the back of Family First preferences.

We're grateful also to Genevieve Gilbert who stood for Family First in the Green-left enclave of Prahran and achieved 1.1pc.

Again, these preferences could be crucial for a Liberal win.

Thanks to every volunteer who helped. Family First is excited to be building a political movement for positive change in this nation.
