@RHSBMaths@RoyalHighBath Yes. Even if the smaller square is size 0, the shaded space will be 72 because the bottom and top right triangles would no longer exist, and if the smaller square is size 12 then the top triangles would not exist and we could shear the bottom triangle to be half the square.
