With apologies to my many good friends in the USA, I'm hoping Belgium prevail tonight and that football triumphs over scandal.
Though if Belgium do win, I suppose we shouldn't entirely rule out
someone suggesting the result ought to be reversed...
The World Cup was going so well for the U.S. People from all over the world were posting positive things about our country. Trump ruins all of that good will in an instant.
ETTD
Trump found a way to fuck up the most popular sport in the world 🙄
I wonder if people in America realizes how much damage trump caused the last 24 hours 🤔
The red card against Balogun was a bad call, but the one made by Trump was even worse.
Pochettino should sit Balogun tonight, beat Belgium, and show the world America plays by the rules - even if our president doesn’t.
All true football fans that support their team or country would rather lose fairly and with class then to cheat for a win..
We know exactly where the Pres sits with his only possible way to achieve a victory.
I’m sorry to the USMNT for what he’s done..
Imagine if Belgium’s Prime Minister Bart De Wever had convinced FIFA to unsuspend a player on his team prior to their match against the U.S.
People would be furious!
A lot goes into making a match the best you’ve ever seen - the stadium, the crowd, the circumstances, the players’ performances, the stakes, the history. Mexico-England in the Azteca on Sunday evening did it for me https://t.co/TUsneprEIr
I’ll leave it here, but I find it astonishing that American colleagues I respect, in sports and beyond, are either celebrating or minimizing what should be obvious: overt political interference in a disciplinary decision at a World Cup is unethical, unacceptable and profoundly dangerous. Whatever one thinks of Balogun and the red card itself, the debate is now beyond it and precedent is indefensible. The integrity of the tournament depends on the idea that what happens on the field is judged by the rules of the game, not by pressure from political power.
To celebrate this is...baffling.
Just a reminder that shortly after being appointed president in 2017 that Infantino was instrumental in a major FIFA overhaul that ousted the two independent co-chairmen of the Ethics Committee, Cornel Borbély and Hans-Joachim Eckert. At the time, the committee was actively investigating… Infantino
“The request was rendered inadmissible on the grounds that the RBFA [Royal Belgian Football Association] is not a party to the proceedings and, as such, has no standing to appeal the decision,” FIFA said in a statement.
But TRUMP does?? Really? So corrupt

I feel sorry for Balogun.. he just wants to play his football and do well in the World Cup..
Now asshat has tainted all of it. Why? Bc he is a selfish prick.
This is ridiculous. Balogun shouldn't have been sent off.
But the idea that the White House is devoting more effort to strong-arming FIFA than it has to reducing housing and healthcare costs is revolting.
And the fact that by intervening, Trump may end up tarnishing the team he is purporting to help (not to mention our nation and international sport) only illustrates his narcissism, arrogance, and imbecility.
But here we are.
This great World Cup has been a celebration of unity between fans and nations. A celebration of sporting principles. Gianni Infantino has to see that and think again.
The U.S.’ 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina is now the most-watched English-language soccer telecast ever in the U.S., drawing 24.4M viewers:
• That number is expected to near 40M once Telemundo and Peacock’s Spanish-language audiences are included
• “We’re seeing numbers for some of these matches that we don’t see for anything but the NFL,” Fox Sports’ Michael Mulvihill tells Variety

To anyone considering helping President Trump interfere with our election or our count:
You will be prosecuted.
That’s why I’m moving forward with new legislation that would make it a FELONY to seize ballots before the vote has been certified by state and county officials.
