Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang this morning visited the site of the building collapse at Avenor alongside the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister to assess the situation and receive updates on ongoing rescue efforts.
Briefings from emergency response teams indicated that two individuals had been successfully rescued, while operations continued to locate and rescue others believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
The Vice President expressed Government’s concern for all those affected by the incident and extended her sympathies to the victims and their families. She also commended the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, the National Ambulance Service, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, and other emergency responders for their professionalism, dedication, and swift intervention.
Special recognition was also given to community members and volunteers who provided immediate assistance in the aftermath of the collapse and supported rescue efforts before the arrival of emergency personnel.

I joined my able Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and other government officials in receiving the second batch of Ghanaian nationals repatriated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks.
We warmly welcomed our compatriots home and reassured them of Government’s commitment to their welfare, safety, and successful reintegration. Arrangements have been made to provide medical care, psychosocial support, and employment assistance to help them rebuild their lives.
I commend all institutions and partners whose coordinated efforts made this evacuation exercise successful. Ghana remains committed to protecting and supporting its citizens wherever they may be.
I was at Avenor this morning with the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, following the collapse of a building, to receive firsthand briefings from the emergency response teams on the ground.
We learnt that two individuals had been rescued, while efforts were ongoing to reach others believed to be trapped under the rubble. On behalf of Government, I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.
I commend the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, the National Ambulance Service, the Metropolitan Assembly, and all other emergency personnel for their swift response and dedication to the rescue operation. I also wish to express my special appreciation to the residents and ordinary citizens who immediately stepped forward to assist before and after the emergency teams arrived.
At this stage, our focus remains on rescuing more potential victims and supporting those affected. Moving forward, we also need to place greater importance on prevention. Rules and regulations exist to protect lives and property, and we must all be willing to comply with them and support their enforcement. Proper planning and adherence to building standards and safety regulations governing construction and land use are essential to reducing such incidents.

Midnight at the accra International Airport.
The evacuation flight carrying Ghanaians from South Africa touched down hours ago, but the work is far from over. As the clock ticks past 12 a.m., officials are still registering returnees and completing arrival processes.
A long day has turned into a long night for both the passengers and the teams on the ground
I want you to watch this one.
Not just because im in it but because this is a story that affects every single person who
commutes in this country.
We spent weeks researching 30 years of Ghana’s bus and rail record. What we found was
less about bad luck and more about patterns we keep repeating.
The full explainer is out now. Watch it. And tell me in the comments how long is your
commute every morning?

Maybe it’s just me, but today is the first time I’m hearing about the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours.
What caught my attention even more is that this was the SIXTH edition, meaning it has been running for years.
As a citizen, I’m curious:
Who nominates the ministers?
Who evaluates their performance?
What criteria are used?
Is the assessment based on measurable outcomes, public feedback, policy delivery, or something else?
I’m not questioning whether excellence should be recognized. Public servants who perform well deserve acknowledgment.
I’m simply interested in understanding the process behind the awards and what benchmarks are used to determine who qualifies as “Minister of the Year.”
Anyone familiar with how it work🧐🧐🧐
