Senator Risa Hontiveros has shown that courage time and again. Hindi siya tumitindig para sa ingay. Tumitindig siya para sa katotohanan. Sa mga imbestigasyon tungkol sa POGOs, Alice Guo, human trafficking, abuse, corruption, and failures of public institutions, she has shown what it means to follow the trail even when the trail leads to powerful people. She has pushed for accountability where others would rather look away, and has consistently used her platform to protect those harmed by abuse, exploitation, and institutional neglect.
She asks the questions that many are afraid to ask. She gives voice to people who are often ignored. And even when the attacks become personal, she does not retreat from the work.
That kind of leadership is exactly what our democracy needs: principled, steady, prepared, and unafraid.
'THE PHILIPPINES MUST REJOIN THE ICC'
STATEMENT OF FORMER SENATE PRESIDENTS ON SENATE BROUHAHA
We, former Presidents of the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines, speak at this difficult moment out of our shared moral duty to the institution we once had the honor to lead.
Those of us who once held the gavel know that the highest duty of a Senate President is not to cling to office but to leave the institution stronger, more respected, and more firmly bound to the rule of law than when he or she found it.
We call on all incumbent senators, regardless of bloc or affiliation, to de-escalate public rhetoric that demeans the Senate and weakens confidence in it; to confine their disagreements to the floor and to the proper forums, where the arguments and the votes can be scrutinized by the public; and to prioritize the urgent work before the Senate (the economy, food and energy security, and justice) over internal maneuvering.
We urge all members of the chamber to resolve this crisis swiftly, within the bounds of the Constitution, the rules, and long-standing practice. The country cannot afford an unstable Senate at a time of mounting economic pressures, security threats, and growing public distrust in institutions.
SOLID BLOC 11: ALAN PETER CAYETANO RESIGN!
What happened today was a clear abandonment of responsibility, a dereliction of duty, and a blatant disregard of the rules that govern this institution, because the Senate cannot be made to stop working simply because its presiding officer refuses to lead.
Under Rule XIV, Sec. 41 of the Rules of the Senate, the Senate President may postpone the holding of the session AFTER consultation with the Majority Leader AND the Minority Leader. That rule was violated. This is not merely a procedural lapse—it is a direct violation of the Rules of the Senate and a serious disrespect for the institution and the Filipino people.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano SHOULD RESIGN as he has shown that he cannot function as the leader of the Senate.
I have already responded to these blatant lies and filed libel/cyberlibel complaint before the NBI and perjury complaint before the DOJ.
Today, I take my oath as Senate President Pro Tempore.
Absolute disrespect for the Filipino people. What entitlement.
Mag-boycott tayo.
Huwag mag trabaho.
Hayaan natin ang mga nakabinbing panukala.
Mga senador, binabayaran kayo ng taumbayan. Pambabastos ito sa Pilipino.
Senators were seen crying yesterday as a colleague was being arrested for plunder.
This is in no way an indictment of the accused senator but I would like to remind our lawmakers…
Get out of your bubble. Please.
How convenient it is for some people to use me or what I went through as an example whenever it serves their purpose or agenda.
Now, they cite the resolutions filed by my fellow Senators during my unjust incarceration to allow me to participate in committee hearings and plenary deliberations via teleconferencing. Those were never approved. More importantly, no railroading or shortcuts to amend the Senate rules were resorted to in order to accommodate that request which, I repeat, was never granted.
Kada dekada since 2001 may plunder case na sya.
Third time’s the charm na sana ma convict at walang lusot? 😇
Manifesting. ✨
#Accountability
Thank you Atty for reminding all of us about this BASIC, seemingly ignored TRUTH. Indeed, Rodrigo Duterte, and his sons and daughter, are changing the MORAL COMPASS of the Filipinos, especially their doggone followers. Juskolord, patawarin mo talaga ang maraming Pinoy (ay DDS lang pala), “ for they do not know what they are doing.”
We have a blasphemous narcissist as Senate President whose unafraid to lie if only to block accountability and remain in power.
A real manifestation that evil is amongst us.
