Politicians could fix this issue - for free - in a sitting week.
An amendment to the sex discrimination act to reinstate the correct definitions of woman & man, plus clarifying that the ordinary meaning of sex is biological, would fix this issue.
The choice is simple: fall behind the rest of the world while becoming an ideological laughing stock, or crossing party lines to fix bad legislation & ensure no more Australian citizens are punished for acknowledging reality.
Any politician who says this issue is too difficult to fix is either malicious or incompetent.
Activist: "You can graze sheep underneath solar panels. It's called agrivoltaics."
Farmer: "I've read the brochures."
Activist: "Best of both worlds."
Farmer: "The panels shade the sward. Productive species die back. What grows is what tolerates shade and compaction. Sheep won't finish on it."
Activist: "But the trials show it works."
Farmer: "The trials run three years and measure ewe presence. Not lamb growth rates. Not finishing weights. Not what the soil looks like in year fifteen."
Activist: "It's still better than nothing."
Farmer: "It's a 30% stocking rate, a steel frame I can't plough around, panel-cleaning chemicals running into the watercourse, and a 40-year lease I can't break."
Activist: "But you're getting energy AND lamb."
Farmer: "I'm getting a third of the lamb, a maintenance contract, and a field my grandson can't farm."
Activist: "You're being negative."
Farmer: "I'm watching a thousand-year-old way of feeding people get traded for twenty-five years of subsidised electricity. Negative would be the polite word."
FARM LIFE OBSERVATIONS ON MECHANICS AND FARMING
A dropped socket can run uphill.
7/16ths wrenches have legs.
Measure 3 times; the first two measurements are always different.
Any bolt bin always has one less of the size and length needed to complete the job.
The ratchet is always headed in the wrong direction.
The battery charger unplugs itself.
The first extension cord will always be two feet too short.
The chance of an inappropriate cut is directly proportional to the cost of the piece.
When you think it will take longer to get out the tools than to complete the job, you're probably wrong.
Dropped screws instantly turn to camouflage.
The odds off dropping a small item is a direct relationship to the cleanliness of the floor.
You will always incorrectly cut the last remaining piece.
All engine compartments have nut, bolt, and washer hiding areas included at no extra cost.
The battery is situated on the side requiring a longer set of jumper cables.
A broken air wrench has little or no impact.
Grease guns are even greasy when they are new.
Freshly welded items always stay warm longer than necessary.
There is a reason that the closest tool is always the hammer.
10 millimeter sockets are the all time "Hide and Seek" champions.
A misplaced tool will always be located once the need has passed.
In 2015, Borneo and Sumatra burned.
Not a wildfire. A managed burning season: peatland drained and ignited to clear it for oil palm plantation. The fires burned for months. At the peak, the smoke haze covered an area the size of Western Europe. Satellite imagery showed Indonesia producing more daily carbon emissions than the entire United States economy.
A study published in Environmental Research Letters estimated the smoke caused approximately 100,000 premature deaths from respiratory illness across Southeast Asia. One burning season.
The peat being burned had been accumulating carbon for thousands of years of waterlogged decomposition. It does not regenerate. When peatland is drained and burned, the carbon stored across millennia releases in a single season.
This happened so that oil palm could be planted where the peat forest was.
The oil ends up in your bread.
Listed as "vegetable fat (sustainably sourced)."
Sustainable is a word that has been stretched so far it has stopped meaning anything at all.
Hey Americans, I might be a know-nothing Brit, but I can't help thinking that arresting your president for raping kids might be a better idea than letting him collapse the global economy and possibly end the world. Just a suggestion.
@HolbrookKym@peters_malcolm The only real comparison is rate i.e. firearms per capita. Raw data is not an accurate representation that can be compared across a 30 year timeframe, & can be used to skew arguments to those unable to apply critical analysis
Ironic that the value of seized cocaine from a livestock carrier is worth more than the Federal Governmentβs entire live export transition package π
Four men, including the chief officer of an international livestock carrier, have been charged over their alleged roles in a plot to import more than 525kg of cocaine into WA.
WA crime investigators were alerted on November 6 when a member of the public discovered large packages tied to flotation drums about 30km offshore.
Later that day, WA Police and AFP officers recovered the bundles off the coast of Lancelin, seizing 525kg of cocaine - equivalent to more than 2.6 million street deals and valued at $170 million.
Assistant Commissioner Longhorn said, βThis seizure represents a significant disruption to organised crime networks attempting to target Western Australia.β
βThe successful recovery of these drugs is the result of a complex, multi-agency operation and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting the community from the impact of illicit substances.β
Police have charged the vesselβs chief officer, a 46-year-old Croatian national, with attempting to import a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
A 52-year-old Perth man and two Sydney men, aged 19 and 36, have also been charged and faced court.
