As a fan of The Odyssey, this is absolutely Christopher Nolan's worst film to date. The cinematography, score, and acting are great, but the characters have no depth to them, and a lot of the plot points in the book that are essential to Odysseus's growth as a character are completely skipped over. There's no infant in Troy. There's no wind bag. There's no holy moly. There's no "Nobody." They don't kill the sirens. Zeus and Poseidon are only briefly mentioned and aren't physical characters. Athena IS, but in the original story she has a huge falling off with Odysseus and ends up coming to Telemachus to help guide him, she doesn't appear to Telemachus AT ALL in the movie. The mutiny doesn't really happen either. They just have a brief fight and then end up on Apollo's island, kill the cow despite Odysseus literally telling them they're going to die, and then get back in the boat and die. And for some reason, Nolan decided that more than half of the film has to take place IN ITHICA! The ending is SOOO drawn out while earlier parts of the film are RUSHED! WORST PACING EVER!

I'm VERY disappointed in Nolan's take on this classic tale.

Of course Nolan knows the pun translates well into English.

The reason for omitting it is that Nolan's general style is very low on humor, and such a pun sounds too much as a "silly joke". It would break his high-stakes, very serious, overly dramatic (and pretentious) style.
