@rosamundmtaylor@TheNewEuropean Our education system is too fixated on GCSEs and specialising to exclusion after. If you aren't good enough for the exam, it's not worth continuing... Even when you are, with A-levels restricted to 3 subjects ss see the GCSE as an end-point with nothing past it. What's the point?
I just followed a bus and the advert on the back stated a higher starting salary than my teacher's salary. All that's needed is a driving licence and a smile, apparently...
@officialnhaynes Phoebe - I would hope that she would light up the table and have great stories to tell (or foretell?). Also, because I named my Greek cat after her.
Kids don't choose languages because of our narrow A-level choice. If a child has aspirations to university they must choose three related subjects so they focus on those. They may love a language but they don't see a pathway to keep it in the long run.
