Nearly 3 years on and Brexit is still sapping all the energy from Whitehall -- preventing real and pressing crises in housing, hospitals, schools, crime and the climate from being addressed.
Meanwhile poll after poll shows a majority now want to Remain.

The prime minister just said she thinks the message from voters on Brexit in the local elections was simple: “just get on with it.”
If that’s the case why would they have turned to parties who, quite literally, don’t want to get on with it?
I like & respect my local Labour MP, I like & respect many senior Labour MPs who’ve urged me to be patient but, right now, if I voted for Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party I wouldn’t be able to look a Jew, an EU citizen, anyone set to be hurt by Brexit or myself in the eye ever again.
Team Labour just sent me an email saying:
"Today's the day we fight to save our communities."
Does that include our European community? - and all the protective rights and values we've worked to build into it? Asking as a member... 🌹
Bravo! @RCorbettMEP just calmly, slowly roasted the @BBCr4today interviewer.
Isn’t a second referendum divisive?
- No, it was unanimous policy at conference.
But why is it needed in the manifesto?
- Are you saying we should keep our policy secret?
🔥🔥🔥More of Richard, pls!
Then you believe in the public voice.
...and the public’s ability to throw out politicians & policies when they no longer support them.
That’s democracy.
“The British people want . . .”
Have you noticed how the very people who keep telling us what we want are the most reluctant to actually find out what we want. If they are so confident of what the British people want, why are they so terrified of a People’s Vote?
At the summit one Prime Minister warned us not to be dreamers, not to think #Brexit could be reversed. But in this difficult moment, we need dreamers and dreams. We cannot give in to fatalism.
At least I will not stop dreaming about a united Europe. https://t.co/qXkBC1tbtY
The Govt response to the petition “Halt brexit for a public inquiry”
...is one of the most disingenuous, unprofessional & propagandist pieces of writing I have seen in a long while:
The Brexit-advocating politicians now know the project is a failure.
If they manage to make it happen, they know they’ll be pushing through a failure.
This country is better than that. It’s time to call it for what it is
- and bin Brexit.
Why are the BBC interviewing Brexit Party with no votes and no elected representatives on Newsnight when they won’t interview Greens ? Is the BBC Farage’s publicity machine in giving them a national public voice ?
If we stop Brexit, we’ll be the country that was pulled to the very brink by far-right populism but recovered our senses just in time and dug deep to stop it. I don’t think that’s humiliating at all.
This is deeply, shockingly, horribly and indeed dangerously irresponsible. What on earth is happening to our politics.Has nothing been learned from the tragic and terrible murder of Jo Cox ?
“Halt Brexit for a Public Inquiry” now approaching 100K
Definitely think, given the long extension, this now has real legs.
Let’s get that inquiry set up!
