Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence, would like to inform the general public, as well as national and international media outlets about the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border today, as follows:
At approximately 02:15 PM of 07 December, Thai military forces initiated an attack against the Cambodian forces at Prorlean Thmar area in Choam Kshant District, Preah Vihear Province. During the incident, Thai soldiers used handguns, machine guns B40, and 60mm mortars. Cambodian forces promptly contacted the Thai side to immediately cease firing on the Cambodian forces, as the Cambodian side did not retaliate. Subsequently, Thai military forces stopped firing at 02:32 PM.
During this incident, Cambodian forces did not retaliate at all and are closely monitoring the situation with utmost caution and vigilance. At the same time, Cambodia has also informed the ASEAN observer Team (AOT) about this incident and plans to request the AOT to conduct an investigation into this matter to ensure transparency, justice, and accountability.
On this occasion, Cambodia reaffirms its firm commitment to respecting and implementing all conditions of the ceasefire, the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, with goodwill and the highest sense of responsibility. Cambodia reiterates that rather than resorting to acts of aggression or the use of force, Cambodia firmly adheres to resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, the existing treaties, conventions, and agreements, so as to seek solution that is just, fair, long-lasting, and in compliance with international law.
