An Ebola ‘Conspiracy’?: Why is Uganda Blacklisted While DR Congo Where It Originated Gets a Pass?
It’s very difficult to get agreement on anything in politically polarised Uganda, but there is a rare growing consensus in the country that a "conspiracy" at play against it regarding the latest Ebola outbreak.
As is often the case, the virus originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where 452 confirmed cases, 1,000 suspected cases, and 82 deaths have been recorded - before spilling over into Uganda.
Uganda has registered 15 cases and just ONE (1) death, a 59-year-old Congolese man who had come into the country from the DRC.
This is where it gets strange. Despite this disparity, western governments have issued over a dozen strict travel advisories specifically targeting Uganda, far eclipsing those levied against the DRC, and even suspension of visas!!!. This has prompted Ugandan politicians and social media users to rail against them and sections of international media like Al Jazeera for "bundling Uganda with Congo" and treating the two as a single entity.
The situation in Kenya might throw some light on the Uganda case. Protests erupted in Nanyuki, in the mountainous central region of the country, over a proposed US Ebola quarantine facility at Laikipia Air Base. This backdrop lends some credence to a disclosure from an authoritative Nairobi-based journalist who said: "We hear the US initially approached Uganda, which possesses the continent’s finest technical expertise on Ebola. Kampala refused, stating, 'We are too busy managing the spillover from Congo'."
If Kampala did indeed rebuff Washington, it is confounding given the Ugandan government’s long history of subservience to US interests. Yet, it might explain why conspiracy theories are thriving. Kampala likely suspects it is being internationally penalised for refusing to fall in line and serve as an Ebola "leper colony".
What is clear is how anomalous it is for a nation with minor spillover cases to be treated as the primary medical pariah.

Just clocked that Pele holds the official record for the most assists in a single FIFA World Cup tournament with 6 assists.
This World Cup might be time to break that record. 👀
Qatar has held a World Cup where everyone who could afford to attend attended, wait till it's the USA hosting and they will have visa restrictions even on the players themselves 😂.
“I support a vote recount even when the ballot boxes have been tampered with because I am interested in knowing what is inside the boxes, but the magistrate in Masaka made a mistake. You cannot refuse to do a vote recount in one case over tampered ballot boxes, but you allow the vote recount in another case. This kind of inconsistency affects public trust in the judicial system and should be avoided,” Mwagutsa said.

Subject: Clarification on Public Representation of Banyarwanda in Uganda
Your Excellencies,
We, Banyarwanda living peacefully in Uganda, write about public statements by Mr. @FrankGashumba who claims to speak for us!
1. Our position : We are settled, grateful residents of Uganda. Many of us have benefited from education, scholarships, and employment here. We consider Uganda our home and have no issues with our Ugandan community.
2. Our concern : We believe Mr. Frank Gasumba public statements do not represent the views of 99.9% of Banyarwanda here. The claims of widespread mistreatment create a false picture that may damage Uganda-Rwanda relations.
3. The danger : In his speeches, Mr. Frank Gashumba threatens to start up #M23 in Uganda. Such remarks threaten Uganda’s security as a state.
4. Our appeal : Security agencies should take legal action against Mr. Frank Gashumba . Uganda must be protected from those who use drama and lies to create division.
We remain loyal, peaceful residents committed to Uganda’s stability!
Yours faithfully,
Concerned Banyarwanda Residents in Uganda.
I come from a district (Ntungamo) where one or two out of every ten people you meet are of Rwandan ethnicity but no one is judged based on their ethnic background. I have never seen or ever heard of it.
This sense of entitlement displayed by a small group of self seekers (Frank Gashumba and his friend Dr. Lawrence Muganga) who believe they can advance their ambitions by playing the tribal card, reflects a poverty of ideas and a misplaced belief that tribal sentiment can override the law and the constitutional order.
One of the greatest achievements under President Museveni has been the promotion of a Uganda that rises above tribal divisions and embraces national unity.
If Dr. Muganga badly wants to become a minister, he should focus on addressing the real issues that may be standing in his way, rather than resorting to tribal narratives. Public offices should be attained in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Uganda, which guarantee equal opportunity to all citizens regardless of tribe, ethnicity, religion or place of origin.
The Iranian navy, which has been destroyed eight times, has apparently closed the Strait of Hormuz again, because the United States, for the seventh time, won the war that wasn’t a war, so now the United States has to open the Strait of Hormuz that was already open before the not-war began.
The not-war began because Iran had uranium that was totally, completely, beautifully obliterated, so they can’t build the nuclear bomb they weren’t building, which is why the United States had to start the not-war it definitely didn’t start.
Now the United States, which has nuclear weapons, is threatening to use nuclear weapons to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are far too dangerous for countries with nuclear weapons to allow other countries to have.
If the United States saw the United States doing what the United States does in other countries, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States.
At this rate Muganga may exhume his parents bodies and carry them to Parliament....in this world do everything but never let Frank Gashumba be your advisor man 😂
Went to the grave yard laced with MICs like Sabrina Agasha about to shoot en Episode of It's Never That Serious.
This is how narcissists move by the way
At St Joseph hospital Kitgum where i did my Surgery and OBGYN internship, all of us lived within one minute walking distance (self contained rooms) from the ward, opetating room & OB ward.
There was a designated chef who cooked for us . All these were paid for by the hospital and all we needed to do was attend to emergencies promptly.
Now imagine those who wont be paid.
