Please join us in congratulating Pius Kitamirike @Piusedwin11 on graduating from @MakerereLaw with a Master of Laws (LL.M.)

His master’s thesis examined the role of labour unions in safeguarding employment rights, with a case study on the Uganda National Teachers’ Union.

His research shows that while Uganda has a strong labour law framework through constitutional guarantees, statutory protections, and international conventions, enforcement remains weak. By exposing the gap between law and practice, his work highlights urgent reforms policymakers must addres.

Labour law involves complex workplace issues like unfair dismissal, discrimination, collective bargaining and workers’ rights. A moot competition forces students to apply legal theory to realistic disputes, simulating court or tribunal proceedings.
