Here’s an extract from ‘Esquisses d’une après midi Basque’ (1923) by Emiliana de Zubeldía. I love this particular piece in the set, where she combines Basque folksong with impressionistic techniques which she learned in Paris.

Escobar was a 🇻🇪 musicologist, pianist & composer. In Paris, she furthered her studies with Arthur Honegger & Charles Koechlin & developed an interest in the native legends from her home country.

#botd in 1917, Mucha was a Scottish composer who married Jiří Mucha, son of the painter Alphonse Mucha, and in 1945 moved to Prague.
