Ynet spoke to Moran Gaz, who, until recently, led the security cases division at the Southern District Prosecutor’s Office in Israel and was a member of ‘Team 7.10,’ responsible for cases involving captured Palestinians in connection with the October 7th attacks.

On investigations related to sexual violence, she says:

➤ “In the end, we don’t have any complainants. What was presented in the media compared to what will eventually come together will be entirely different.”

➤ “Either because the victims were murdered, or because women who were raped aren’t willing to expose it.”
**She excludes here another explanation: that no rapes occurred.**

➤ “We approached women’s rights organizations and asked for cooperation. They told us that no one had approached them.”

➤ “There were parents who reached out to organizations asking what to do if something happened to their daughter, but they didn’t reveal the abuse.”

The systemic abuse of Palestinian prisoners is part of official Israeli policy under National Security Minister Ben-Gvir. While human rights organizations advocate for accountability, political leaders and courts enable this cruelty by turning a blind eye.

Asked about the legality of conditions in Israeli prisons, Ben-Gvir’s office told Reuters: “Terrorists in Israeli prisons are granted … living conditions and accommodations appropriate for criminals.”

Over 60 medical complaints submitted to prison authorities detailed untreated chronic illnesses, injuries, and an uncontrolled scabies outbreak—all were ignored.

Detainees, forced to wear the same clothes for weeks, likely contributed to the widespread infection, causing intense itching and painful sores. A Haaretz investigation in November estimated that a quarter of those detained by Israel are likely infected.

At Ofer, detainees endure a daily ritual of violence and humiliation during four roll calls, each involving two hours of standing. Punishment for “improper” standing includes bending the hands and improper restraints. After roll call, detainees must bow in a “worship-like position” on the floor. For visits with lawyers, detainees are required to wait outside, lying on their stomachs with hands cuffed behind their backs, sometimes for hours. PHRI reports numerous incidents of beatings, verbal abuse, and sexual harassment—especially during cell raids or transfers.

Ofer Military Prison recently made headlines when detained orthopedic surgeon Adnan Al Bursh died with significant evidence of torture. Detainees there describe inhumane conditions involving:

➤ Constant physical restraint; hours-long stress positions.
➤ Concrete floors & metal beds with thin, torn mattresses.
➤ No lighting; toilets located in the center of cells.
➤ Drinking water sourced from toilet taps.
➤ Clothes going unchanged for weeks.
➤ Mattresses and blankets confiscated in the morning, leaving detainees on cold concrete, returned only at night.
➤ Meals lacking basic nutrition: a few slices of bread with small box of cheese, jam, or spread, and occasionally a single vegetable.
