Thanks Morning Sound Farm for hosting a wonderful visit from N/K Dufferin school! We respectfully interacted with many baby animals, learned how people on the farm live and where some of our food comes from- like delicious milk from this goat which the children helped to milk.
April is the month to honour the earth( Earth Day, April 10) Room 3 a.m. made sculptures from recycled materials. Students creatively problem solved as well, as this criteria will show!
Thanks to Speech and Language Specialist Tara for sharing with rm. 3 a.m. how to use various ways to communicate and learn "core" words as well as have a lot of fun!
A highlight this week in Room 3 a.m. was having math specialist , Mr. Matt, show us new ways to understand addition -using 10 frames , writing what we see on the ten frames with numbers(2+8=10) and using the smart board. Thanks Mr . Matt!
U M nursing students came to tell us about germs. In this excellent hands-on presentation we learned what germs are, how they spread & how to stop them, effects of germs, had a germ hunt, "Hot Potato" germ game & designed & named our own germs- I liked : Joey the Germ!
Children & support teacher Ms. B co-create a Wolf poem in our continuing study of Wolves. Responding to questions that tapped into accumulated knowledge children brainstormed & Ms, B scribed. We reread the poem using -picture cues, alphabet knowldege & sight words
N/K went to MB. Children's Museum for the program "Paper, Trees and Me". We learned about trees & how they help us. We made paper with recycled materials & petals & seeds. Rm. 3 will plant the paper we made to see if the seeds in it will grow- another level of recycling.
3 a.m. inquiry into wolves, Ma'iingan , our Seven Teaching animal. We looked at, responded to and asked questions about what we saw. Support Teacher, Carrie recorded words, to become a word wall. After looking carefully at &talking about these pictures, children drew wolves.
This week in room 3 a.m.-store inquiry- a word wall using environmental print as a guide. Painting clay hands-a project based on the book "I call my hand gentle" about choosing to be kind to others. Many thanks to a wonderful volunteer!
Rm 3 a.m & p.m. are doing a store inquiry. Questions- What do we need next ? How do we know how much money to pay? Price tags! Children wrote numbers and put them on items. Then we talked about what things cost how much.
Room 3 a.m. is setting up a grocery store! Children have meaningful opportunities for lilteracy and numeracy, strategizing and team work that can apply to the real world. Families let your children help you do the shopping!
Thanks to Barb & Linc for visiting Room 3 a.m. Linc is a therapy dog who visits hospitals, seniors & schools. Children in Room 3 a.m. loved having Linc in the room. It gave them a chance to show kindness, gentleness and generosity to all our relations, a way of practicing peace.
