Eight defendants now face federal charges in connection with an alleged plot to attack the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on June 14, with the intent to kill government officials and others in attendance.

All eight men were named together in a two-count indictment returned today in Columbus.

The latest defendant, 21-year-old Chandler D. Scaggs of Chapmanville, West Virginia, was taken into custody in West Virginia this week.

According to the affidavit, Scaggs was assigned to serve as one of the snipers in the planned attack.

He was originally supposed to be picked up by co-conspirator Proper to travel to Washington, D.C., but after Proper’s arrest, Scaggs reportedly told the group he remained willing to participate and arranged for another co-conspirator to transport him to the event.

The indictment charges all eight with two conspiracies: conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiracy to commit murder on federal government territory and to murder a federal government official.

This superseding indictment replaces the initial criminal complaints filed in various districts across the country.
