The false dichotomy aside, let's see if we can calculate just how wrong you are! I haven't done a calculation like this since uni but as long as we can find all variables this should be pretty straight forward, luckily the apollo missions are some of the best documented projects in human history (found all I needed immediately. So to solve this we would use the beer-lambert formula for radiation attenuation, so:

I = I_init * e^-μρx

where (only metric because ffs america):
I: Intensity of radiation after shielding (rem/hr)
I_init: baseline radiation (no shielding, rem/hr) [2]
μ: mass atenuation coefficient for aluminium (0.2 cm^2/g)
ρ: density of aluminium (2.7 g/cm^3)
x: thickness of the shielding (≈4 cm) [1]
Now to calculate intensity we can calculate the avg Dose rate using the atten. dose rate in inner/outer belt and exposure time for the astronauts, so:

dD/dt = ((I_in * t_in) + (I_out * t_out)) / (t_in+t_out)

where:
dD/dt: derivative of D_tot with respect to time t (i.e dose rate, rem/hr)
I_in: dose rate inner belt (10 rem/hr) [2]
I_out: dose rate outer belt (5 rem/hr) [2]
t_in: duration in inner belt (0.88 hrs) [2]
t_out: duration in outer belt (1.5 hrs) [2]
With this we can calculate the totas dose where :
D_tot equals the integral from zero to t_tot of the derivative of D with respect to t, dt. Which gives:
D_tot: total radiation dose recieved (rem)
dD/dt: Dose rate
t_tot = t_in + t_out: total time in radiation belts (hrs)

Ok we have defined the equation now we can just pop the variables in and do the calculations! First the beer-lambert equation (I = I_init * e^-μρx) (e = eulers nat. logarithm = ≈2.72, because math is beautiful and the universe is full of wonders)
-μρx = -(0.2) * (2.7) * (4) = -2.16
e^-2.16 ≈ 0.115
So:
I_in = 10 * 0.115 = 1.15 rem/hr
I_out = 5 * 0.115 = 0.575 rem/hr
Which gives an avg. Dose rate
dD/dt = ((1.15 * 0.88 ) + (0.575 * 1.5)) / (0.88 +1.5) ≈ 0.787 rem/hr

So the astronaut in the apollo spacecraft was exposed to:

D_tot​ = 0.787 rem/hr * 2.38 hours ≈ 1.87 rem

And that's our answer! 1.87 rem in total! which is absolutely nothing, the lethal dose for a human is about 500 rem! (https://t.co/vdlshDuPYg)

This has been a tremendously fun little exercise and I have enjoyed myself thoroughly!
Now, you are welcome to take this calculation (don't forget the sources!) and show to every one of your little tin-foil hat friends and let them check my math to make sure I haven't made any mistakes, but other than that I think I can conclusively say that the "impossibility of passing through the Van Allen belts alive" is pure horse-cock.
