We were in Kigali for a conference. I left my phone in the security check tray. Shortly after leaving the airport, I realized. Asked the taxi to turn back. Got to the airport, I was asked to identify my phone. I did. They asked me to unlock it. My face unlocked the phone. They gave me a small piece of paper to sign, and off I went.

The first officer I approached was the person who solved the entire problem.

Kigali remains a city close to my heart.

I just registered a company in Rwanda in 24 hours, completely online, and paid nothing. Even more impressive, the confirmation email arrived an hour ago on a Saturday. Everything was done through the Rwanda Development Board website, including a downloadable certificate with all the company details. It honestly feels unreal.

My dad hated our neighbor for 11 years. Said he was rude. Cold. Arrogant. Every morning the guy ignored everyone and drove off without waving. One winter my dad slipped on ice outside our house. Bad fall. Couldn’t move. Guess who sprinted across the street first? The “arrogant” neighbor. Called the ambulance. Covered my dad with his own coat.
