In this paper, we demonstrate the construction of an UCNP/GO biosensor for the sensitive and rapid detection of oligonucleotide markers associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus as shown in Scheme 1. UCNPs were functionalized with oligonucleotides designed to detect part of the viral genome coding for the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp)/Helicase (Hel), a marker that is also used in Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing. We show that the presence of the target can be detected within a few minutes with excellent selectivity and sensitivity.
