#NaaleRajaaKoliMajaa review: Director #AbhilashShetty’s sophomore effort is a charming film that balances gentle humour with socio-political commentary, writes @mysorevivekmv

Abhilash Shetty, who made his debut with Koli Taal, returns with his second feature, Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa — a charming tale that continues the characters and story from his earlier film.

It’s highly likely that u know nothing abt #NaaLeRajaaKoliMajaa & hence this review.
Having watched #KoliTaal & now this, this is a sequel (or even a cinematic universe) like none other. In his own way, #AbhilashShetty has done the unimagined.👏

#NaaleRajaaKoliMajaa
I really enjoyed watching this film by Abhilash Shetty who earlier made #KoliTaal.
Do watch the film. Such narratives are rare in #Kannada.
A Kannada film for the weekend.

#NaaleRajaaKoliMajaa: A Delightful Second Serving from the Koli Taal Trilogy.
@IamAbhiShetty returns with Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa, the second installment in his charming Koli Taal Trilogy, and it's every bit as heartwarming and rooted as its predecessor. Once again, the humble chicken (koli) takes center stage, this time through the innocent cravings of a school-going girl whose Sunday chicken dreams are disrupted by the coinciding Gandhi Jayanth, a day when meat is banned to honor non-violence.
Set in a picturesque village, the film thrives in its authenticity. The rustic backdrop, the simplicity of rural life, and the emotional weight of food traditions are all woven together with sensitivity and humor. Prabhakar Kunder (Mahabala Shetty) and Radha Ramachandra (Vanaja) return as the beloved ajja-ajji duo, bringing back the same warmth and liveliness that made Koli Taal such a joy.
At the heart of Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa is Samrudhi Kundapura’s delightful performance. Her portrayal of a young girl negotiating with tradition, craving, and circumstance is both endearing and natural. The screenplay moves with an easy rhythm, never forced, never overdone. It embraces the nuances of everyday life while cleverly highlighting how even the smallest dilemmas can carry emotional weight.
For those who cherished Koli Taal, this film is a natural extension, offering a fresh yet familiar flavor. It’s a tender, well-balanced tale that understands its world deeply and speaks with a quiet charm. With two strong films now in the bag, the anticipation for the final chapter of the Koli Taal Trilogy is stronger than ever.
