These days, barely a week goes by in Europe without a drone sighting, a fire or a power outage being blamed on Russia. We’re told that these incidents are all part of a relentless, and escalating, “hybrid war” that Moscow is waging against the continent.
But does the evidence support Western claims that Russia is engaged in a systematic hybrid war against Europe? As I argue in my first piece for @RStatecraft, not really.
Most claims of Russian involvement turned out to be establishment-amplified speculation that collapsed under basic scrutiny. In many cases, there is no evidence the incidents themselves actually even happened (drones supposedly swarming European airports, etc.).
So is this just a case of collective panic fuelled by click-addicted media? Or, given that the claims of a Russian “hybrid war” against Europe appear to rest on little more than propaganda, is there a concerted effort by the EU-NATO establishment to condition citizens to believe that Europe is under attack from Russia?
In Italy, the expression “strategy of tension” evokes a dark period, from the late 60s to the early 80s, in which intelligence services and secret paramilitary networks operating under NATO auspices inflated the terrorist threat to frighten the electorate, including by engaging in terrorist acts that in some cases were then blamed on the left. European leaders should be wary of reviving such a strategy.

Ex US Ambassador to Russia @McFaul admits he lied, and all US Diplomats lie, all the time.
"Its the real world"
British MI6 officer, deluded Russophobe and Polish foriegn minister @sikorskiradek can't help but laugh. They are all frauds.
In 2014, Gideon Rose, then editor-in-chief of Foreign Affairs, laid bare, remarkably openly,Washington’s ambitions to drag Ukraine into its own sphere of influence.
The danger of provoking a military confrontation with Russia was perfectly foreseeable.
Had Russia attempted to pull Mexico or Canada into its military orbit, Washington would never have tolerated it for a second.
The Cuban Missile Crisis alone makes that abundantly clear.
Yet the US expected Russia to accept the very kind of strategic encroachment that America itself would regard as an intolerable threat.
And the hypocrisy becomes even more glaring when one considers that, at the time, only a minority of Ukrainians supported NATO membership.
This was not simply a matter of defending democracy; it was also about power, geopolitical dominance, and Washington’s determination to expand its influence, regardless of the risks of dragging Ukraine and the wider world toward a catastrophic confrontation.
@clashreport When he says "all of us" he doesn't mean all Europeans. He means all of the European political class like him who have led the continent to disaster.
@clashreport Sure. It is in his and his elite buddies' interests. But not in ours, the people's. The elites will lose power and some of them might even face trial, yes. But for the people, especially in Ukraine, a surrender would mean life can finally continue and nobody has to die anymore.
If peace deal is reached with Russia, we still need a referendum on it in Ukraine: 'because we're a big democracy'
Says Zelensky, who holds no elections

Sunday’s election will determine the fate of Brazilian democracy, the fate of Latin American sovereignty, and the survival of the Amazon rainforest — which is to say, that of all humanity.
In a sane world, Trump's (and Zuckerberg’s) escalating efforts to bring Bolsonaro back to power would be front-page news, but alas… we are not so lucky to live there.
Instead, we live in a world where Lula and Bolsonaro are neck-and-neck ahead of Sunday’s run-off. https://t.co/QFujD7qqib
