"Disparities in children’s outcomes start before they ever get to school, are impacted by a fragmented system of policies & institutions, & have life-long consequences." @BlahaOsborne#ProfilesInEquity#EarlyChildhood#ECE https://t.co/Ga6DwKMYuY
For those of us in academia who grew up translating for our parents/making language accessible, it’s a strange thing to be in a profession whose defining practice is making language inaccessible.
Our report provides recommendations to school & district leaders on how to re-envision social-emotional & academic development to move away from “fixing kids” to addressing environments & systems that impact the student https://t.co/O7POMWeCnf #ReEnvisionSEL
Schools, districts, and communities must provide the most impacted students with different levels and combinations of support this school year. https://t.co/9FoIdst6eZ #edchat#k12#fundschools@ERStrategies
To learn from those closest to the solution, we're launching a new “Justice Fellows Policy Program.” Do you know someone who was formerly incarcerated & would be a good fit? Send them the application today. https://t.co/nzCsgN5c9u #JusticeFellows
@EddieComeaux Schools are microcosms of society. Until there is divestment from police at the local & state level then schools will follow. Current statistics show there is more policing presence in schools than counselors or social workers in urban schools. This is a problem. #racialjustice
Ironically, we end week 10 in #ucr150 regarding a chapter on student activism. Yet, we as student learn about injustices in athletics, but aren’t supported to do this work by the academia that is supposed act based on what they preach. @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely@EddieComeaux
In light of recent events in America this last week, now more than ever, we need to be active within our colleges, community’s and homes to create equity and humane treatment for all. Silent no more #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely https://t.co/oYCgsHQCGG
There is a racial justice mvmt evolving. We read about racism in athletics and activism that takes place, but when it comes down to it we should be able to do something about it, and not write a paper based on past history when we could be doing something about it NOW. #ucr150
I don’t understand how academia expects us to block everything out that’s going on in the world and expect us to complete our finals and assignments at the same expectations as if there wasn’t a pandemic or revolution happening and dealing with our mental well-being . #ucr150
Im on the streets 5 hrs a day protesting. As an POC in the education department I do not understand why you arent supportin your students and their personal or collective life struggles. Cut the final let us fight your battle #ucr150#BLM @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely@EddieComeaux
