I studied with Keith Arnatt (1930-2008) in the early 1990s. Keith’s interest in photography came through conceptual art, and tutorials were often spent discussing photography’s ability to transform ‘something’...and his obsession with Samuel Palmer @profdanhicks #MuseumsUnlocked
@C_Frost3 Charlotte, thanks so much for this. I only came across these wonderful photographs very recently. It's quite a large series, so there are even more on the Tate website.
@karisgarden@Missvolare Thanks so much for this Kari. I noticed the man in the porch with his dog, but would not have made this connection. How interesting!
This extraordinary collection of hand coloured glass lantern slides has recently been added to the RHS digital platform. Commissioned by Edith Carroll Perkins and taken by Eleanor Malby in the 1920s. 292 images of English gardens, some now lost @Missvolare
@Missvolare Apparently Eleanor was the wife of Reginald Malby and took over the business when he died. Re. Ellen Willmott, there are two pictures of New Place and one called Warley on the RHS platform taken by Eleanor. My personal favourites are the cottage gardens ..
The late summer planting at Lytes Cary Manor in Somerset is looking great just now. Here's a link to my account of my visit last week:

@GrimArtGroup Great photograph. Nan Youngman (1906–1995) painted some wonderful scenes in south Wales - this one's called 'Rhondda, Saturday'. Newport Museum & Art Gallery, via ArtUK
Read about dahlia shows in the 1830s, as recounted by Joseph Harrison in The Floricultural Cabinet and Florist's Magazine. From small scale events in pubs to exhibitions at Vauxhall Gardens.

Eric Ravilious was born on this day in 1903. I'm delighted to receive an advance copy of my new book on his work, which is due out on the 28th Sept thanks to @thamesandhudson and @V_and_A...
@HouseHistorian1 Thanks - yes, I thought so too! Here are a couple more from Geoff Charles taken in Rhondda. You can see the decorations in the background.

@HouseHistorian1 I wonder if you know anything about the tradition of gathering greenery to decorate houses for the miners' fortnight holiday in South Wales?
