(1/3) ⚠️ We have an unusual risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday, primarily in the late afternoon through the evening. The primary hazards we are concerned about are:
⛈️ Hail in excess of 1" diameter
🍃 Wind gusts in excess of 58mph
🌪️ Possible isolated tornado
@wx_washington2@RandySmall Question for you - I’ve noticed some of the listed names aren’t actually cities…for instance, the city of Sammamish is not listed, but Sahalee (neighborhood) and Pine Lake (neighborhood and POI) are. Where’s the list pulling from? (And how hard is it to request updates? 😅)
7am Tuesday update - all area schools are closed. PSE currently reporting 411,614 customers without power - it’s going to take a few days at least to get everything back up and running, so they’re not listing any estimated restoration times.
Most cell towers have standby generators, but they don’t have indefinite fuel! Conserve battery power on your phones and devices. Check in on neighbors - we’ll get through this together!!
10pm update - PSE is now reporting over 300,000 customers without power, bringing the statewide total to around 493,000.
We still have an hour or so of peak gusts still ahead of us, but it’ll still be pretty gusty overnight into tomorrow morning.
We are aware of downed trees and power issues at the following locations:
SE 40th off SE Issaquah-Pine Lake Road
SE 20th between 228th and 212th
SE 40th & 228th
Our crews are responding to downed trees while PSE will respond to any power issues.

I know Issaquah SD will make a decision by early morning, and I'm sure Lake Washington SD will too...if I had to guess, I'd think they'll call for a late start to give PSE and road crews a chance, but I would not be surprised if they canceled the day altogether.
9pm update - This has quickly turned from a "Cascade foothills" storm to a region-wide event...somewhere around 450,000 customers without power across the entire state, plus another couple hundred thousand across the border in BC. This is *wild*. #wawx
Things look to taper off after midnight, but remain breezy tomorrow. The High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4am.
Roads are going to be an absolute mess in the morning. Stay home if you can.
BREAKING: Issaquah seems to have had the brunt of the storm so far. Much of the town is in total darkness and damage appears widespread, at least with fallen trees in the road. We watched as a fire truck had to do a u-turn enroute to an emergency because the roads were blocked
Trees are coming down all over the city & falling onto homes. If you can, go to the lowest floor and stay away from windows. Do not go outside if you can avoid it.
Emergency responders are working hard to respond to weather incidents but are prioritizing life safety first.
@RandySmall@The_Weatherman2 I'd be interested in this too! (Randy - I haven't forgotten about building a pressure gradient table from last winter either...)
PSE's outage map finally came back online - 271,916 customers out!!
None of the outages have listed estimated restoration times...power crews can't even start assessing damage until the winds begin to die down. #wawx
Issaquah Public Works - 425-837-3470 or IPD non-emergency 425-837-3200
Sammamish Public Works - 425-295-0700
Redmond Public Works - 425-556-2900 or emergency phone 425-556-2500
Eastside Fire asks that you do *not* call 911 to report downed trees across the roads, call city Road Services instead. Only call 911 if it's causing an emergency!
Trees are falling throughout our service area. Issaquah Hobart Rd SE/SE May Valley Rd has been closed due to trees down in the road. Do not call 911 for trees down in the road, call road services to report. Keep lines clear for emergencies.
