@Re_Own@caro@kevinbaum013@martinvars My Uber receipts only show actual toll charges, and they're to-the-penny. I have no "driver return" fees, but these aren't the right prices anyway.
Either the driver pulled a fast one here, or the receipt we're being shown is bogus.
@caro@kevinbaum013@martinvars Westbound tolls at the Holland Tunnel and Goethals bridge don't exist. Asking people to pay to enter NJ was apparently (pun intended) a bridge too far.
The eastbound tolls - even if the Uber driver is allergic to EZ-Pass - aren't $20.
@TruthIsMNI Same here, appreciate the chat.
I do think it's fair to hold individuals to high standards. But group dynamics have always provided a seeming shield from accountability. It's the historical version of online anonymity.
@TruthIsMNI I know, I was just trying to be cute.
I stopped (generally) expecting people to do the right thing a long time ago. There's a lot less disappointment to be had once "hoping for the best" is cast aside. :)
@TruthIsMNI I'm not sure that my general conference-call knowledge should be construed as a defense of the schmucks here.
But yeah, my mom still makes me lunch. Like, once or twice a year.
@TruthIsMNI If I recall correctly, there was a code in addition to the dial-in number. That would imply that - at the very least - a
phone-based conference call service is being used. That's enough to have the mute feature available.
@TruthIsMNI If I were running the show, I wouldn't have the participants sharing a line with the audience. I don't really know how they have things set up for this. There's likely an option to only allow certain participants to speak, though.
@TruthIsMNI Most (if not all) conference-call services allow the moderator to force-mute all participants. If that hasn't been done, whoever opened the line is really the one at fault.
@bethearle Honestly, just given your enjoyment of nature - and occasional need for knowledge - it's probably worth it. Google Lens is the app I use, and it happens to be integrated into the camera software on my Pixel.
@bethearle Have a look at: Johnnytuck - triphysaria eriantha
(I don't actually know any of these, but I realized awhile back that my phone's camera is shockingly good at identifying plants)
@iamspencer I generally make an effort to use what I've already found, but I don't lock myself into hard mode. Sooner or later, it's a guaranteed loser.
