Yeah, this is one part of Bryan’s character that I wish the movie spent a little more time on.

If he already had enough problems going on in his personal life, there should’ve been a stronger reason for him to take a delivery job that was clearly becoming more dangerous by the minute. If it was just the money, I would’ve liked the movie to make that desperation more explicit especially if he needed the paycheck for his girlfriend or something important happening in his life.

But I also wonder if the point is that Bryan doesn’t realize how dangerous the job is when he accepts it. From his perspective, he’s a courier doing what he normally does. By the time he understands what’s actually happening in Raccoon City, he’s already committed to the delivery and has a package that everyone desperately needs.

That would make his decision less “why would anyone agree to this?” and more “how does an ordinary person keep going when the situation becomes impossible?”

Still, I think there was room for more character development here. Bryan’s motivation is basically what makes the entire story happen, so knowing exactly what he was willing to risk his life for would’ve made his eventual choices hit a lot harder.

Because if he knowingly chose the danger for someone he loved, that’s a completely different story from simply taking another delivery for a paycheck.

That’s the last quiet second. Then the floor drops and the only thing left is whether they hit together.

THE HOTEL BALCONY

The hotel was alive that night.

Music filled the rooms, people were laughing everywhere, and the party seemed like it would never end.

She had been smiling all evening, but she was starting to feel tired. She quietly slipped through the balcony doors and took a deep breath.

The city looked beautiful from up there.

A few seconds later, the balcony door opened.

“You always disappear when things get interesting,” he said.

She turned around and smiled.

“I needed a break,” she said.

“From the party?” he asked.

“From everyone,” she said.

He walked closer and leaned against the railing.

“Everyone?” he asked.

She looked at him and smiled.

“Maybe not everyone,” she said.

He laughed.

“So I’m allowed to stay?” he asked.

“I didn’t say you had to leave,” she said.

They stood together for a moment, watching the city lights.

Then he looked at her.

“You’ve been flirting with me all night,” he said.

She raised an eyebrow.

“Have I?” she asked.

“Yes, you have,” he said.

“Maybe you’re imagining things,” she said.

“I don’t think I am,” he said.

She smiled and looked away.

“Maybe I just wanted to see if you’d notice,” she admitted.

“I noticed,” he said.

“And you waited until now to say something?” she asked.

“I wanted to be sure,” he said.

“Sure of what?” she asked.

He looked directly at her.

“That you were actually interested,” he said.

Her smile became softer.

“And now?” she asked.

“Now I’m sure,” he said.

She laughed quietly.

“You’re very confident tonight,” she said.

“Only because you’re making it easy,” he said.

She lightly pushed his shoulder.

“You’re annoying,” she said.

“But you haven’t asked me to leave,” he said.

She looked into his eyes.

“No, I haven’t,” she said.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

He slowly reached for her hand.

She let him hold it.

“You know you’re making this difficult,” she said.

“What am I making difficult?” he asked.

“Pretending I don’t like you,” she said.

He smiled.

“I was hoping you’d finally admit that,” he said.

He stepped closer.

She didn’t move away.

He leaned toward her and kissed her.

She kissed him back.

The kiss was gentle at first, but neither of them wanted to pull away.

When they finally separated, she smiled.

“So that’s what you’ve been waiting for?” she asked.

“That was only the beginning,” he said with a grin.

She laughed.

“You really are trouble,” she said.

“And you’re still standing here,” he replied.

She looked toward the party, then back at him.

“We should probably go inside,” she said.

“Do you want to?” he asked.

She smiled.

“No,” she said. “Not yet.”

He laughed softly.

“Good,” he said.

They stayed on the balcony, talking, laughing, and stealing little kisses while the music continued behind them.

Then suddenly, her smile disappeared.

People say Wanda is ev1l and should be treated as such.

But what I see is a woman who just wanted to feel normal and have a happy, normal life.
