Last Saturday, I had the privilege of speaking in South London at the Creative Inclusive Pathways for All Young People event alongside SEN Bytes and PGS - Educators .

My message was simple:

Heart over data.

Data matters… of course it does. We must understand it, interrogate it and use it wisely. But true inclusion is about more than numbers, spreadsheets or outcomes alone.

A child may feel that they belong…
…but do they know that they matter?

That distinction matters deeply.

At Highgate Wood School, our motto is:
“Everyone matters, everyone achieves.”

For me, inclusion is not simply about creating spaces where young people are present. It is about building cultures where they feel seen, valued and significant.

Because belonging gets children through the door… Knowing they matter can change their life.

Thank you to SEN Bytes and PGS - Educators for creating such an important space for dialogue, reflection and action.

Inclusion is not just policy.
It is ethos.
It is culture.
It is HEART.
