Nearly 70% of the mass shootings in the US have a domestic violence connection. A victim of domestic violence is 400 times more likely to be killed when there is a gun involved. @lisabgeller from @JHU_CGVS host this episode on DV and mass shootings.

4 part chain: 1. When is a haircut not just a haircut in family court? Common abuser tactic is to cut a child’s long hair, without discussion or informing the primary parent. Child just returns back, usually after a weekend, to primary caregiver with short hair…
When a mother is accused of 'alienation' after reporting domestic abuse, it puts huge pressure on her to be nice about her abuser.
Question the behaviour? Can't do it.
Report continuing abuse? It will be looked at as further evidence of alienation. It incapacitates safeguarding.
A question for those who have suffered domestic abuse & are in/ have been through #FamilyCourt -
What do you wish you had known before entering family court? #WishIHadKnown
For me, I wish I had been more prepared - #WishIHadKnown to speak to other mums & receive advice first...
If we say we want victims to leave, it's time we start supporting them. When people lose everything in a natural disaster they receive help. Why do we ignore victims of abuse who leave a storm that is hurting them--and often chases them.
The hidden financial burden of being a domestic abuse victim include leaving everything behind and starting over from scratch. They should have to pay for that.

As bad as this is, it doesn't even mention that if her abuser takes her to family court when she leaves, it's likely he will get lots of unsupervised times with the kids during which he's likely to continue to subject the kids to his abusive behaviour.

Zoe (age. 10) who testified she was traumatized at a "reunification camp" told her mother afterward that testifying was the best thing she had done in her life. https://t.co/scEUq19aHz
Abusers do so much to damage victims'-survivors' lives.
We as societies should be throwing resources at victims-survivors to undo some of that harm.
Cash grants, safe housing, debt written off etc.
That would take away a big chunk of abusers' power.

Great point! We need to focus on prevention through working with boys, men, and masculine folks. Intimate partner violence is a guys issue, fem folks seldom use violence against a partner.
I wonder what percentage of teenage boys would hit their girlfriend once then try to persuade her to give him more chances? I think that is the more important statistic to focus on.
In the US, federally-funded research into family court cases found in about 1 in 7 cases (14%) where courts were convinced that the father had perpetrated domestic violence against the mother, courts took custody from the mother and gave it to the father.

This mother has had her children taken from her in highly unfair circumstances. I'm aware of the details of this case and it's appalling.
Coercively controlling abusers often call their victim 'controlling'.
What's this all about?
Coercively controlling abusers have a huge sense of entitlement. They think that if the victim isn't complying with them 100% of the time, they are 'controlling' them.

R. Gardner came up with parental alienation. One of many questions I have is: What kind of person would use something from a guy that also thought sexual activities between adult and child are “ancient tradition” and other concerning beliefs?
