De'Aaron Fox on his decision to shoot instead of run clock and draw a foul:
"I tried to get a layup to get up 3. Force them to need a 3. OG made a good block."
Playback the last play:
You could tell the Spurs were a little confused before the inbound.
Fox is defending OG ( inbounder) and completely leaves him to double when the double had very little effect on the play with 5 seconds left with the ball from 38 feet out.
OG was untouched for the tip in due to the half ass double.
Here’s where I get confused by the Spurs:
From where Brunson started the play it was obvious Bridges was going to set a pin down for Brunson.
Vic should have been on OG and contested the pass and should have never left him.
OG is a known crasher and a great 3 point shooter. Why in the world would you leave him to double?
Optimal coverage:
Vic on OG
Fox on Brunson ( anticipating a switch).
Harper on Bridges to anticipate the in pin down screen and switch on Brunson.
Vassell on Shamet
Steph on Kat.
I’m floored by not only the poor matchups but most importantly how Fox is in no man’s land and how he leaves OG untouched or even guarded.
This is soooo much worse. Cavs had no chance in this series but it would’ve been an amazing game 1 statement from LeBron
Fox might’ve just ended this entire series
“Good for the long run”
There is NO guarantee we will be back to the finals.
