When the time is corrupt, however, Allāh desires to conceal them (awliyā). When the people of the time turn away from Allāh, preferring what is other than Allāh, admonition does not avail them and reminder does not make then incline towards Allāh. Then they are not worthy to have the awliyā appear among them. That is why it is said, “The awliyā of Allāh are brides and criminals do not get to see any brides.”
"The revolutionary leaders who declared independence in 1776 envisioned a republic composed of citizens who could see themselves as members of a single polity, liberated from the hierarchical structures associated with European aristocracy. The racial category of 'Whiteness' therefore aligned with the leveling impulse embedded in revolutionary rhetoric. It allowed colonists of varied European backgrounds to imagine themselves as equals within a new democratic order while still maintaining a boundary that separated them from indigenous nations and enslaved Africans. In this sense, the consolidation of European identities into a single racial category mirrored the broader ideological transformation of the age. The flattening of older ethnic distinctions reflected the liberal revolutionary ethos that sought to redefine relations among individuals, communities, and political authority in the young American republic, forging a new civic identity that rested upon the shared designation of 'white citizens' within the emerging national state."
