Always a joy returning to Birmingham for #NationalPoetryDay 8th year running at Bartley Green. Lovely to chat to pupils I taught years ago. Funny asking if people knew what day it is that's special for poets. Out of 150 pupils 1 year 7 shouts out "Thursday!"

1. The value of arts in schools can't easily be measured on a numerical scale. Today in my workshop a 7-year old wrote from the perspective of a tree: "my leaves are like a disco by changing each season." That level, that quality, is not unusual.
