@NickTaber Still you must know that there are good therapist out there. It's true. They debate with patents, they advocate for the child. They are used to this dynamic.
@benryanwriter @alextatem We're you also disappointed in the movies at a young age? At age 11, I was surprised at how generic and redundant "Return of the Jedi" was.
@NickTaber We should, and they do. Some of the agencies you have experienced have been lacking in this. Other agencies do this and have some conflict with the parents. Some Parents accept the tension, because the therapist is savvy and doesn't blame them for their shortcomings.
@NickTaber To do both of what I'm saying is a challenge. Some therapist get fired by parents for defending the child perspective. The objective measure is achieving the duality that we both want: highlight the child's perspective while helping them cope with the family system.
It wasn't that you didn't have the "strength" to escape that abusive situation. You didn't have the SAFETY to do so.
You could have been the strongest, smartest kid-- or adult-- ever, but if it wasn't safe to seek help or escape, it wasn't safe. That's NOT your "failure."
The descent into the unconscious is always dangerous. It can be visualized as being devoured by the whale-dragon, as going down into a dark cave or into the castle of the evil magician. We go there to get something. As a rule, it is a valuable treasure or a precious stone.~Jung
