Wow! Young people across this country igniting change is what’s keeping me focused and hopeful. Let’s share their work with everyone. Support them. Omaha Nebraska: https://t.co/jmtGtnAgrR.
Since I’m the only Indigenous person in the academic spaces I navigate, I’m always asked about land acknowledgements. So here are my common responses bc I try to keep in mind that everyone uses their “only X friend” to justify their racism at times. 🧵
@delta_dc I’ve always found it interesting that people who oppose changing math instructional practices are often the same people who say, “I’m not a math person,” or “I hated math in school,” Students don’t need worksheets or timed tests, they need number sense and reasoning.
@ModestTeacher They hung a for sale sign, big enough to be seen from the road, from the roof of the school. Then posted it for sale with an accurate description on Craig’s List. Number of bathrooms, condition of the cooling/heating system. It was hilarious!
@WillieGeist@TimOBrien Passage that stood out to me: "Because here's the thing about life. There's no accounting for what fate will deal you. Some days, when you need a hand. There are other days when we're called to lend a hand. That's how it has to be."
@WillieGeist I agree it is a great speech, but I think we are all a little giddy right now because we heard someone speak in complete sentences that made sense, with a whole lot of truth mixed in.
@manfay8@TeachMrReed That’s actually not helpful. Stating your feelings and expressing your concerns isn’t necessarily complaining. It’s explaining the world as you are currently experiencing it. Thank you for expressing yourself Mr. Reed. I am struggling.
A kind, accepting and loving world starts in the home. Wishing those struggling with being out, proud and accepted by loved ones — inner strength and peace. Be proud of yourself and have no shame in your game! Thank you Nabisco and Oreo.
