Students read The Great Kapok tree and then created a kapok tree. They then discussed how this tree is important and why we should conserve our resources (rain forests). They also discussed how animals use the tree for their basic needs and habitats.

2nd grade studying the 4 basic needs of all animals: food, shelter, air & water. Ss picked a bird or bunny peep & made a shelter that was appropriate for it. Ss learned a bunny lives in a burrow & a bird lives in a nest, but still has a cover on the top from trees.
